When you go exploring:
When spring temperatures give way to the summer heat, it’s natural to seek cool and relaxing spots. While the French Riviera is famous for its lively beaches and coastal trails, insiders know that the true treasure lies inland, in the hinterland of Nice.
With its crystal-clear waters, natural pools, and breathtaking landscapes, the rivers of the Gorges du Loup offer a true paradise. Numerous swimming spots are located near the famous canyoning sites, combining aquatic fun with immersion in nature.
Our LESGECKOS guide office, ideally located on the banks of the Loup River, just upstream from the gorges, is the perfect starting point for exploring this little piece of paradise during a canyoning trip in the Loup.
The Gorges du Loup stretch from the village of Gréolières, at the height of our base in the hamlet of Bramafan, to Pont du Loup. This river originates north of the Audibergue mountain, near the village of Andon, at about 1,200 meters above sea level. After a winding journey, it crosses the Gorges du Loup before flowing into the Mediterranean between Villeneuve-Loubet and Cagnes-sur-Mer.
In the gorge section, the Loup river rushes between steep cliffs, forming deep pools that are perfect for swimming. Some of these pools reach up to 10 meters deep, creating natural swimming pools ideal for cooling off. However, be cautious: the river can have areas with strong currents and waterfalls. Please be careful and watch children closely.
The Parc Départemental des Rives du Loup: Perfect for families, this 55-hectare Natura 2000-protected site is an exceptional natural space. Located further downstream, it offers stroller-friendly trails, picnic areas, and safe swimming zones. The main access points are located in Villeneuve-Loubet, Cagnes-sur-Mer, and La Colle-sur-Loup.
