At what age can children do canyoning? (Our precise rules)
Safety is our absolute priority. To ensure the experience remains pure fun, here are the age and supervision criteria we strictly apply in the Loup Canyon:
- From 8 years old (with adults): Children are welcome if accompanied by their parents or a responsible adult. The only mandatory requirement: the child must know how to swim and be comfortable putting their head underwater without panicking.
- From 12 years old (unaccompanied): A child can participate alone if and only if they already have prior experience in canyoning or outdoor sports and are fully confident in the water.
- From 14 ans (unaccompanied): This is the required age for teenagers who wish to discover the activity for the very first time without being accompanied by an adult.
Safety: Why the Loup Canyon is ideal for children
The Gorges du Loup Canyon is a true geological wonder, but above all, it is the safest course in the region for families:
- No jump is mandatory: This is the golden rule at Les Geckos. If your child is afraid of heights, no problem at all! All jumps (from 1 to 9 meters) and natural water slides can be bypassed on foot. Zero pressure, 100% fun.
- Gear adapted to smaller sizes: We provide top-of-the-range, CE-certified equipment perfectly fitted to children’s bodies (5mm full neoprene wetsuits to prevent shivering, lightweight helmets, and adapted harnesses).

Where to find us? Ideally located near your holiday spots
No need to spend all day in the car to give your kids this adventure. Our private base Les Geckos is ideally located at the entrance of the Gorges du Loup, avoiding the major summer traffic bottlenecks of the backcountry.
- From the coast (Cannes, Antibes, Cagnes-sur-Mer): Count 35 to 45 minutes via the Grasse road or the Loup valley axis. It’s the perfect cool escape from the stifling beach heat.
- From Nice: About 45 minutes, passing through the Saint-Isidore toll gate and then taking the Grenoble/Gattières road to bypass the busy Promenade des Anglais traffic.
- From the nearby backcountry (Grasse, Vence, Valbonne, Villeneuve-Loubet): Only 20 to 25 minutes via beautiful scenic roads.
- From the Eastern Var (Fréjus, Saint-Raphaël, Montauroux): Count 50 to 55 minutes (via the A8 highway, Cannes/Grasse exit, or through the interior via Fayence). This is the quickest water-canyoning spot to reach from your holiday location!

Canyoning with children requires a minimum of organization. Our exclusive private base located in Courmes offers a level of comfort unique to the French Riviera (PACA region) that you won’t find anywhere else:
- Clean changing facilities and toilets: Ideal for changing the kids out of sight before and after the activity.
- A large, free private parking lot: No exhausting walks along the road with heavy gear on your back. You park, you’ve arrived.
- Shaded river access for grandparents or non-participants: If some family members are not doing the activity, they can relax under the shade of our large lime tree or access the river banks directly in just 3 minutes to wait, relax, and cool off.

The half-day Loup Canyon tour (approx. 3 hours total) is the perfect format for kids: exciting but not exhausting! Spots fill up very quickly in July and August.
